'Hot off the press-release' - Cancer Research UK (CRUK) published today a report designed to feed into the government's research and innovation strategy which is due to be completed by the end of 2011.
The report, as stated in the press release, "outlines the vital elements that should form the core of a strategy to deliver on the Government commitments to support medical research in the 2010 Spending Review, and the 2011 Plan for Growth."
The press release reports several comments from the great and the good of UK biomedical research stating the nation's advantages as a location for research and exhorting the government to take heed of CRUK's advice in order to sustain the UK's position internationally at the forefront of medical research in the face of increasing competition.
The often-adduced complexity of research regulation as a retrograde influence is brought up again as is the potential for biomedical research to drive economic growth and the increasing investments being made in science by other nations.
